One of the mayor commercial cities within London, Croydon is a town of many cultures, not least due to having Lunar House located there. Croydon is situated on the natural route to the south coast. Croydon has a beautiful skyline made up of buildings like No.1 Croydon and Fairfield Halls as well as the Nestles building.
Although Croydon is in the county of Surrey, administratively speaking it is a London borough. Croydon dates back to the Bronze Age where a settlement has been found on Croham Hurst and Croydon also appears on the famed Domesday Book as Croindene.
Croydon is now a mayor metropolitan area with at least three shopping centres including the Whitgift Shopping centre, the Centrale Shopping Centre and St Georges Walk which is due for redevelopment. Other plans for development include the tram link being extended to Crystal Palace and bringing the river back from under the town to where it used to be many decades ago.
The main road serving Croydon is the A23 linking central London to Croydon and then heading south towards the coast where it becomes the M23.
